Mike Blakemore

MikeBlakemoreHi I’m Mike Blakemore and I’m the Program Director of the Fish!  What does that mean?  Well if the Fish were a boat, I’d be its captain!  I’m responsible for everything you experience with the Fish… what you see, what you hear, what you feel, everything except the commercials.  Plus I’m the station voice of the Fish 24/7, so in-between songs I’m that voice you hear saying “At 104.7 The Fish, Safe for the Family means…”.  I also fill in all the time whenever one of the DJ’s needs a day off.

So you’ve probably heard my voice, but now you get to find out a little about the person behind the voice.

I’m married to my beautiful wife Kim (a Georgia native) and I have 2 kids, Whitney and Brett and a stepson CJ.  I’m celebrating my 10 year anniversary at the Fish and 15 years now in the south.  I LOVE it here!  I’m originally from Wisconsin and am a proud follower and stock holder of the Green Bay Packers!  (I root for the Falcons as long as they aren’t playing us).  I’m a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Go Badgers!) and I’ve been in radio since I was a sophomore in high school!

I was born in Detroit, Michigan in August, 1963.  Three months later on the day we lost President Kennedy, I was adopted by my family.  I look back at that day thinking about what a sad day it was historically for the country and yet what a blessing it was for me.  So every year when the news mentions the Kennedy anniversary, I know it’s also my second birthday!

Working at the Fish, it’s only fitting that I live near a lot of fish!  If it’s over 80 degrees and I have free time, you’ll find me on or close to the water doing everything from waterskiing, tubing, or just watching the sun rise or set.  Here’s one of my favorite photos!  There’s nothing like wrapping up the day with a little peace and tranquility!

To me it’s a privilege to serve and work at the Fish!  To see God at work through the music and word and to hear all the stories about the changed lives as a result, keeps me going and inspires me every day.  To oversee such a great radio station that spreads that love is nothing short of a dream come true and a blessing.  It takes all my past radio experience to another level.  I pray every day that God will give me and everyone at the Fish the wisdom to further His kingdom by reaching out to as many people as possible.

Favorite Fish Artist: Too many to pick from!  (some of my favorites include Third Day, Casting Crowns, Laura Story, Switchfoot, Matt Maher, TobyMac, Mercyme and Chris Tomlin)
Favorite book: There’s only ONE book… lol after that, health or self-help books.
Favorite movie: “Miracle” (the story of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team) (rated PG mom and dad)
Companies I endorse: Fellowship Home Loans – They are awesome.  These guys have our same beliefs and values Fish listeners have.  Give Brian and Mike a call at 800-804-7283 or online at Fellowship homeloans.com

Things I Watch: TV news, history and real life story shows.  I love keeping up to date with what’s going on in the world and learning about inspiring stories.
I love sports: Football (college and pros), Basketball (college), Hockey (college and pros), Baseball (Go Braves!!!), All water sports, Golf, biking, rollerblading, keeping active.
All things technology: I’m referred to as a geek as I love all things “tech” and staying up to date with all tech trends.  That’s why the Fish stream sounds sooo awesome!  Check it out on this site!
Music:  Music has been a huge part of my life.  I love all kinds of music, but especially Fish music!  I love what has happened with today’s technology and production values and how it’s reshaped Christian music!

Final thoughts:  Whether you’re early on your journey or been a believer all your life, I hope the Fish enhances your walk and helps keep Christ front and center in your everyday life.  In college I studied how media and its messages affect your mind, especially young children.  That’s why the Fish being “Safe for the whole family” is so important to me.  We all have experienced a song playing over and over in our mind.  When that song (or anything you hear on the radio) inspires you and brings glory to God, I know our little part in that effort has been a success!  Blessings!
